Design flow for Globally Asynchronous Locally Synchronous Systems using Conventional Synchronous Design Tools
نویسنده
چکیده
– We propose a design flow for Globally Asynchronous Locally Synchronous systems, which can be used by designers without prior knowledge of asynchronous circuits. The design flow uses conventional synchronous design tools and we have developed a tool to generate and handle the asynchronous circuits in the flow. The design flow starts with high-level model of the system behavior and proceeds down to an implementation in an FPGA or an ASIC. The generated asynchronous wrappers can produce its own clock signal using an internal oscillator or use an external oscillator. An external oscillator can be used if a specific clock frequency must be obtained. The proposed design flow is currently used for implementing a physical layer for a wireless LAN. Synchronous Design Flow for Globally Asynchronous Locally Synchronous Systems
– In this paper, we introduce an efficient design flow for Globally Asynchronous Locally Synchronous systems, which can be used by designers without prior knowledge of asynchronous circuits. The design flow starts with a high-level description model of the system in Simulink and ends with a hardware implementation in an FPGA or a standard-cell ASIC. We have developed a tool in MATLAB, so that t...
متن کاملA Design Path for Design of GALS Based Communication Systems
The GALS (Globally Asynchronous Locally Synchronous) approach is highly suitable for implementation of communication systems. In this paper we describe an efficient design flow for GALS design based on commercial tools. As design example we have selected a digital FIR filter. It is a nontrivial task to develop an efficient design flow for GALS based systems because of the asynchronous parts. Bo...
متن کاملPower-Efficient Design of a Clockless NoC Router with a New Integrated Flow
The downscaling of silicon technology and the capacity to build entire systems on a chip have made intrachip communication a relevant research topic. Besides, technology challenges point to the fast adoption of non-synchronous networks on chip (NoCs), using either globally asynchronous, locally synchronous (GALS) or even clockless approaches. However, clockless circuit design with current autom...
متن کاملComparison of a Ring On-Chip Network and a Code-Division Multiple-Access On-Chip Network
Two network-on-chip (NoC) designs are examined and compared in this paper. One design applies a bidirectional ring connection scheme, while the other design applies a code-division multiple-access (CDMA) connection scheme. Both of the designs apply globally asynchronous locally synchronous (GALS) scheme in order to deal with the issue of transferring data in a multiple-clockdomain environment o...
متن کاملEvaluating the Partitioning of GALS Systems Using Abstract System Level Modeling
The complexity of digital design and time-to-market have arose many challenges in synchronous design methodology; the need for high frequency and low skew clock distribution with its profound effect on final circuits take a lot of time and implementation cost. Asynchronous design methodology by eliminating global clock and replacing synchronization with handshaking is not yet much promising for...
